The story
In The Tale of the Heike, the teenage warrior Atsumori rides to his death wearing armor laced in moegi — the color announced his age to friend and enemy alike. Centuries later the color kept a place on the Edo stage: moegi is one of the three stripes of the kabuki draw-curtain, and that green still frames every kabuki performance.
